Addicted

I'm almost always up for giving new makeup products a try. If I end up not liking a product, so what? It's not usually so bad that I can't use it. I'll use the rest of it and move on to the next.

When it comes to mascara, though, we have a whole new issue on our hands. Lancome Definicils is the very first mascara that ever graced my lashes, and in the 10+ years since that fateful day, I haven't found anything to knock it from my number one. And then Lancome came out with a fabulous lash primer... and well... there's no turning back now. I'm addicted.

And I'd like to thank my mom for causing this expensive addiction. These fabulous lash beautifiers are not what I would classify as cheap, but they are well worth the money.

Believe me. I've tried to quit them. I've tried cheaper options. I was a college student once, and $26 mascara was not my most intelligent or fiscally friendly purchase, but I couldn't break the habit.  Post-college, I've also tried just as expensive options. Nothing compares.

If you don't want to shell out the moolah for the mascara and the primer, at least give the mascara a try. You can thank me later.

What's your beauty product addiction?

The Weekend: Lazy Edition

Well my friends, I can't lie to you. This weekend was a lazy one. And that is something I was quite alright with after the liveliness from last weekend. I know the suspense is killing you, and I wouldn't want to keep you waiting, so without further adieu... my weekend.

First up we have a flower that has absolutely nothing to do with my weekend except for the fact that I took a picture of it.
On Saturday morning we stopped in Old South Church before heading over to a music festival in Copley Square. After stepping foot in it, I couldn't believe I hadn't stopped in sooner. It was, without a doubt, the most gorgeous church I've ever seen.
After stopping by the music festival, we enjoyed lunch on the patio at Charley's. And while I still haven't had peach sangria, I can say I've had pink sangria ;)
After lunch, we scooped up a blanket and headed down to the Charles River for a little relaxation before the rain rolled in.
Sunday morning and afternoon was filled with church, grocery shopping, and chili making. We headed out to the Public Gardens right at dusk for a walk around the park.
I've realized the dusk/dark is my favorite time to go here. There aren't as many people/tourists and the way the city lights up around the park is beautiful.

As you expected, I'm linking up for the Weekend Update!

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Friday's Fancies: Just Peachy

For Friday's Fancies this week, we're creating outfits inspired by our favorite summer refreshment or treat.  Would you mind kicking off the weekend with me over a peach sangria?

original image {via}
AND it's in a mason jar. If that doesn't reel you in, then I'm at a loss. Now let me be really honest with you. I've never had peach sangria, so you could say I'm cheating here. And that's fine if you do. But I'm sure not how you can go wrong with moscato, peach schnapps and lemonade... do you?

Peach Sangria Inspired
1: tank / skinnies (only $26!!)/ sandals (similar)
2: peach top / skinnies / TOMS
3: dress / scarf / wedges
Ok, so I also created three outfits instead of one. I couldn't decide, ok? I know they're all pretty different looks, but they would be appropriate for different occasions.  And the scarf in three you could wear in your hair or around your neck.  Just don't buy two and do both at the same time. Or if you do, don't ask me for my opinion on it. Which outfit is your favorite?

Peruse through more refreshment-inspired ensembles at {long distance loving}!

ALSO, be sure to enter the interior decorating e-board giveaway if you haven't yet! You only have until Tuesday!

Have a great weekend!

Spending Freeze Update!

So I implement a spending freeze on myself, tell you all about it, and tell you I'm going to give you weekly updates on my progress.  I've seriously failed. Not in freezing, but in updating you.

I do apologize for not staying on top of the updates, but I'm happy to report that I'm still frozen! In all honesty, it has not been that difficult. And it's really made me realize how much I do not need and how many unnecessary items I was buying.

For instance, last week before we had tons of family coming to visit, I usually would've had to have purchased at least one new item for the weekend to wear. Now really. How silly is that? I had just as great of a time without new clothes as I would've had with them. It's ridiculous when you take a step back and really think about it. My boyfriend, family, and friends love me (I'm assuming) all the same without any new clothes, shoes, and accessories, and that's what really matters.

You want to know what the one thing is that I've been dying to buy? Workout clothes. That's probably not what you expected to hear. I've started taking a couple of classes a week at Life in Synergy, and I would really like a new pair of yoga pants and a couple of new tank tops to rotate in to my workout gear. The only other thing I've kind of sort of wanted to buy is a fun scarf to wear in my hair. Random, right?

Obviously I wouldn't be breaking the bank by buying these few items, but I would be $100-$200 poorer if I purchased them. And then I'm sure you know about the ripple effect once you step into a store. There are suddenly TONS of items that you NEED to buy that you hadn't thought of before. So in all reality, it'd be more than $100-$200.

Anyhow, that's the spending freeze update. Only 1 month and 5 days to go! If you've been freezing too, how has it been going for you?

A Boston Fall

Fall. My favorite season. I used to get crazy excited about it because the Midwest summer heat was more than I could bear. Some of the Boston summer weather I've experienced is more similar to an Indiana fall than it is an Indiana summer. I am NOT complaining; I'm rejoicing. Regardless, how can I not look forward to it when these are the views I will take in everyday?

1 / 2 / 3 / 4
Not to mention all of the seasonal activities Fall's arrival brings along with it: apple cider, going to the pumpkin patch, feeling that cool brisk autumn air, drinking a hot Starbucks drink to warm up, wearing boots, layering layering layering (!!) and not sweating, football and tailgating, and my favorite... it's the first sign that Christmas is nearing. I'm a freak about Christmas. Just wait. You'll see.

What do you look forward to most about Fall?

The Weekend: Visiting Parent Edition

So, I didn't post yesterday. I know you all were devastated. I mean not really, but humor me here and at least pretend.  I was exhausted from a fabulous weekend with lots of family in town, and writing a blog post just wasn't at the top of my to-do list. So, here's your weekend recap... a day late.

Our first stop was Cheers for a Friday lunch.  We continued the feast before the Red Sox game with some tasty appetizers.
Boyfriend and his little brother outside of Fenway before the baseball game.
And yours truly with boyfriend before the game. I'm still not sure why his little brother got to sit on his shoulders for a picture and I didn't.  We're basically the same size.
There are always such gorgeous sunsets from Fenway!
Sporting the upside down hat look. What's not to love about this?
Left: bf & fam // Right: my parents // Both: in Copley Square!
Some Farmer's Market action on Sunday.
berries galore
you say tomato...
bf and padre.
I have no problem taking pictures, but I do apparently have a problem with getting in pictures. This is the only picture I got with my parents the whole weekend! This is on the Charles River, right across the street from our apartment.
During the bonding time this little nugget and I had.
And that'll just about do it, folks. Of course I didn't capture everything, because that's nearly impossible. All in all, it was a great weekend though, and it was fantastic to see so many familiar faces. I hope you all had wonderful weekends as well! Have a happy Tuesday!

And of course, don't forget to check out everyone else'e weekend happenings as well!

Fabulous Blogosphere Finds

Hello and happy weekend! I haven't done a fabulous blogosphere finds in a hot minute, so I thought I'd bring it back around today.

These thoughts on relationships and how to make them successful made me smile.

I loved reading about Natalie's wedding on Ever Swoon. Beautiful, I tell you. Just beautiful.

As if I didn't already want to visit Santorini badly enough, {this} really sent my desire sky-high.

I talk quite freqently about how difficult it can be to make friends in a new city post-college, so I was comforted to know that others feel the same way.

And just in case you missed anything around these parts...

My usual weekend recap included many a sea creature.

I'm giving away a free e-board courtesy of Lindsey Anne Interior Styling. You don't want to miss out on this one!

A story about receiving free Mario Badescu products and info on how you can score your own.

And the usual installment of Think About It Thursday revoloving around this: "Find something you are passionate about, and keep tremendously interested in it".

I'll be spending the weekend with two sets of parents (mine and my boyfriend's) and playing tour guide as we show them our new city and home! Do you have anything exciting planned for the weekend? Whatever you do, make it a good one!

TAIT: Stay Interested

Find something you're passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.

Most of us know what we're passionate about. We know what makes us tick, what really gets us going. What we're not so good at sometimes is making time for it. As you may know, I love photography. Love love love photography. I had gotten into a rut for a while of never taking my DSLR anywhere. I claimed that it was too heavy, too bundlesome, and inconvenient.  My poor little DSLR that I had invested so much money in sat in my closet and collected dust.

I'm so thankful for blogging, because it forced me to wipe the dust off of my beloved camera and reconnect with it; and I'm so happy that it did.  I hardly ever leave the house without it now. I get so lost in it now to the point that people around me probably find it obnoxious. Here's what I've learned though: we can never improve or become more knowledgable in our passion if we push it to the wayside in order to take on everything else that life throws at us. Making time for what you're passionate about may not always be easy, but it will bring you joy. It will make you realize why you were so passionate about it in the first place.

So whatever it is that you're passionate about, make time for it, stay interested in it, and always strive to learn more and improve. You won't regret it.

Mario Badescu Skin Care: FREE Samples

Let me tell you a little story. Shortly after moving into the city, I went back out to the 'burbs with my boyfriend while he did a little bit of work on a Saturday. I, being the excellent girlfriend that I am, graciously took his car off of his hands for a few hours and did a little shopping. My first stop was Ulta. Here, I encoutered the Mario Badescu Skin Care line. We instantly became besties, I purchased some MB eye cream, and then left Ulta so as to keep myself from purchasing one of everything in the store.

So, MB eye cream comes back to the city with me, we fall in love, blah blah blah, you know the rest. So of course I'm thinking, "where can I buy more products from this fantastic skincare line?". I turn to my trusty friend Google to guide the way, and guide the way Google does not. Why? Because NO ONE in Boston sells the Mario Badescu Skin Care line. Insane? ABSOLUTELY. Happy about it? NO, to say the least. Sure, there are plenty of stores around Boston that sell it, but guess who has two thumbs and doesn't have a car. That's right. It's me.

So, I think that maybe I can purchase these products online. I go to mariobadescu.com and fill out a little skin survey to find my perfect product matches, and much to my very pleasant suprise, they tell me they're going to send me free samples! Way to make my day, MB. Way to make it.

So sure enough, a few weeks later all of these MB friends show up in my mailbox.
So not only do they send you more than enough samples, they send you a personalized guide so that you know how, where, and when to apply these little dandies. So, what are you waiting for? Get OVER there and fill out the survey for crying out loud. It's free! FREE!

Speaking of free, have you entered the giveaway yet? Also FREE. Go do it.

The Weekend.

Oh, hello! Who's excited that Monday is finally here? No one? Shocking. Me neither. The weekends fly by far too fast. I'm all for starting a petition to make every weekend a three day weekend. If anyone is interested, please do let me know.

So I kicked off the weekend with a boot camp class (ouch), and celebrated my work out accomplishment by eating. Makes sense, right? I made bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, which I had been dying to try since seeing them on Allie's blog last week. They did not disappoint.

Saturday
Saturday morning I headed to Barnes & Noble to pick up Plate to Pixel after Jackie recommended it via The Everygirl coffee talk last week. I can't wait to start reading it! And when I returned home, the mailman had just delivered Cupcakes and Cashmere. Not too shabby, eh?
Sunday
On Sunday, we ventured out onto the ocean on a friend's boat.  The sun shined off and on, but we couldn't have asked for better weather temperature-wise.
getting in touch with nature, baby lobster style.

Starfish. I can not take any credit for catching these sea creatures, by the way.
boating with boyfriend.
sand dollars. or as they call them in these parts, sand dollahs.
So that's all I have for you. I kind of sucked at taking pictures this weekend. I promise I'll make it up to you next weekend. My parents and my boyfriend's parents are visiting which clearly calls for many many pictures. I won't let you down. Pinky promise.

I'm linking up again for the Weekend Update!

Have a marvelous Monday!
