Think About It Thursday

There is so much truth to this.  I think the blogoshpere can sometimes be a somewhat materialistic place. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE blogging, my blogger friends, and it's no secret that I love clothes. I just think that sometimes there's a lot of pressure to "keep up" and to have all of the latest and greatest trends hanging in your closet. And it can be daunting.

The reality of it is, though, these things usually only give us temporary happiness. Experiences, friendships, and relationships are what give us a more permanent happiness. The likelihood of me looking back 20 years from now and thinking about how happy my clothes/jewelry/home furnishings made me is slim to none.

There are plenty of people out there that get by with much less than I do, and I would venture to say they are just as happy or happier than I am.  I have no intentions of throwing in the towel and dressing like a bum, but I do think it's important to remember what really matters in life and to prioritize accordingly.

Thanks so much for sharing this, Morgan. It's SO true and something I don't think about enough and can drag me down. Refreshing to read "real" and honest posts like yours. Have a great day! :)

So true, and I have the same thoughts you do. Thanks for putting it in perspective for us today :)

So very true! I have a hard time remembering that and seem to hear it often from the boyfriend. He's more focus on the positives kind of guy., which is so helpful when I can't seem to stop dwellin on the negatives. Be happy with here and now (and what you have). Good thinking on this fine Thursday! xx, Allie

SO true, Morgan! I love blogging, but it only gives us temporary satisfaction, whereas investing in growing relationships will really be more worthwhile in the long run. I always have to be careful to only spend so much time blogging in a day, or else I get so wrapped up in it! Lol.
I really love your Think About It Thursday posts...they are so wonderful and refreshing!

Agree totally. I love to do my 'outfit posts' but then I look in my closet and realize that I have a bunch of clothes. Probably more clothes than I have places to go. Don't tell my husband. I am going to go through and get rid of a bunch of stuff because it is ridiculous. I am blessed to have what I have so I need to pass on some of that stuff to someone else.

Perfect reminder. Material things are fine and dandy, but at the end of the day what matters most is our health and loved ones because without them, life isn't worth living. And I don't plan to throw is the shopping towel either, but you are so right, when we are 80 who the heck is going to remember what we wore in our 20's and 30's.

I couldn't agree more with all you said. I know in the almost 7 months that I've been blogging I've spent more money on myself than ever -- and I didn't need to do so at all! We just have to take a deep breath and remember how lucky we are to begin with :) We blog to just have our "INSPIRATIONS" right? Not to make us buy a lot more STUFF we don't need!! Thanks for sharing this quote... it'll be on my mind the rest of the day! xoxo

So, so true! I totally agree. There are lots of times when I feel my H&M outfit doesn't compare to other bloggers. BUT that same outfit is a dream for another person.

This statement gets me into trouble sometimes though lol. Whenever I eat I feel so bad if I don't finish a meal because I can't help but think of starving people. I mean, it's good for me to be aware, but not good that I will literally force myself to eat lol.

Wonderful Morgan! Life is a sum total of who you decide to spend it with. My relationships (family, online, friends ) is what brings more meaning to life. Thanks for this. xo

This is so true! Family, friends, and health are most important... everything else is icing on the cake!

This is so true and I completely agree! I love that you posted it! I catch myself feeling like sometimes I forget it is not the materialistic things that matter at all. I agree too that it is hard at times not to compare and try to keep up with the latest, greatest and most gorgeous! Thanks for the reminder :)

One of my favorite quotes! Even the bums in our country are in the top 8% of the WORLD'S population. That means that there isn't a single one of us that has any right to be unhappy. I have a ton of clothes, but they don't define me and I don't find it necessary to spend money on clothes and accessories these days. I'm finding happy in the simplicity of life ;)
