Keep Calm & Carry {it} On

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm heading back home this weekend. This means I have a couple of flights in store for me; four to be precise, as a direct flight between Boston and Evansville does not exist. I've obviously been flying more frequently as a result of living 1,000 miles away from the fam, and I have therefore improved on packing. For me, one of the most important things is packing my carry on bag with the necessities below:

 1. A book or magazine: How else are you going to stay entertained throughout that flight? And if you need a book recommendation, I definitely suggest the one above. It is, without a doubt, one of my favorites.

2. A cardigan or light jacket: Airports and airplanes can get a bit chilly.  Be prepared with something to throw over your shoulders, even during the summer months.

3. Hand sanitizer: I learned this lesson the hard way.  After my flight back to Indiana last month, I came down with a nasty sore throat virus. Airplanes are crawling with germs. Keep ya'self clean, sista!

4. A change of clothes: Fortunately, I have yet to be a victim of lost luggage. I'm sure at least one person reading this has been, though, and they would probably tell you to never check a bag again. Or to pack at least one change of clothes in your carry on.

5. Oil absorbing sheets: This is an absolute must for me.  There's something about flying that leaves me feeling grimy, dirty, and oily-faced. More often than not, I'm greeting a loved one that I haven't recently seen after my flight, and therefore want to look my best.  Keep these guys in your bag for a quick stop at the restroom after your flight, and clean that pretty face right up.

6. Headphones: duh. I personally could not survive a flight without music, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this one doesn't require an explanation.

7. Gum: Avoid that horrendous popping that those high altitudes can force upon your ears. And as an added bonus, if you have a dirty mouth, you can clean it up with Orbit ;)

What are your carry on essentials?

These are essentials for sure! I used to fly between New York and California weekly in the summer and I lived out of my carry on! (Check-ins can be cumbersome and who wants to wait a year or two for your luggage to come out of that conveyer belt?) Yes, yes, yes to the hand sanitizer. & I agree about the oil absorbing sheets! A must! lovely post! Enjoy your time with the family & have a safe trip! xo, Megs

I have yet to be a victim of lost luggage too. Yay for us! But, I'm never smart enough to think to bring a cardigan. When will I learn?

I love seeing what you carry on- I am horrible at packing! The oil wipes are a must, as is the cardigan and gum. I like to travel in sandals so I'll usually pack a pair of socks, too!

I'm heading out tomorrow to San Fran! I'm definitely bringing my little travel pillow for a nap and some Trader Joe's trail mix to snack on. I'll grab a Smart Water at the airport for those oh-so-fabulous electrolytes. Love seeing what you'll be packing! xx, Allie

Sounds very similar to my list of carry on's. I've never been a victim of lost luggage either but I'm so afraid from stories I've heard, so I'd rather be prepared than not have a change of clothes!

All great essentials for a carry on. Do those oil absorbing sheets work well for you? I used to use them, but a different brand, and didn't like them much, but you seem to swear by yours. Have so much fun on your trip!

Never check a bag. It doesn't have to be 'lost' forever to ruin your vacation. I took connecting flights from NY to CA a few years ago and ended up being rerouted. I got to CA, but my bags took 2 extra days to get there. Why waste time and money buying cheap clothes at a strange mall on what is supposed to be your relaxing vacation?

Have a safe and fun trip!! I think are becoming a packing pro!! And I have super oily skin and used to use these sheets, but found that carrying tissues work even better for blotting and are much cheaper...and have multiple uses! LOL!

This looks like my carry on bag! Completely agree with all of it. I always have a cardigan with me as I for some reason always feel it is 10 degrees colder than everyone else! Have a safe trip!
