Confession

I want to tell you guys something. See these things?

{via}

Well guess who has two thumbs and has never had one...

You guessed it. It's me. I, Morgan, have never had a macaron.

Is this a blogger faux pas? I feel like it is. The whole blogosphere is in a tizzy over these little things. Everyone is all like, "omg. I had the best macarons yesterday" and "here's an instagram of my macarons". And I'm all like, "omg. I have never even seen one in person. there must be something wrong with me." In all honesty, I had never even heard of these until I started blogging. I know. Your mind=BLOWN.

I probably just lost a few followers. I just want to know, is there anyone else out there who's never had one? And also, are they that good? I mean, I will devour a cupcake or a bowl of ice cream in no time flat, so this mister macaron guy has some pretty stiff competition.

Enlighten me friends. Give me the down and dirty details on the macaron. And for the love of God, someone else confess and tell me they've never had one either.

ahh me neither!! which is more a Lindsry faux pas, as opposed to a blogging faux pas for me because sweets are practically my middle name - I love any and all sweets so that fact that I haven't jumped on this trend yet is beyond me! We need a date to eat some! haha

I totally confess I haven't had one either!!! They look wonderful but I've never had the opportunity. I might try and search them out just to jump on the "i love macaroons" bandwagon! Have a great Tuesday!

I have never ever had one before and quite honestly I just think they look pretty but I don't think that I will actually like them! So don't feel alone, I think they are probably overrated anyway.

If it makes you feel better I hadn't had one til last year! So I'd say you're still ok. The deal on them is that they're basically these two little crisp, yet gooey cookies with creme in the middle and everything is flavored to perfection! They go perfectly with coffee and sizes differ according to the bakery. A lot of the fruit flavors are infused with real fruit in the filling (which I think is awesome!) and some are lighter than others. Whole Foods makes great ones! I have a recipe for some and really want to try it!

Right there with you! I've never even seen one in person. They may just be too fancy for me!

I've never had one, couldn't tell you whats in them or what they taste like!

I've never had one either! I'm pretty sure Cupcakes to US are like Macaroons to Europe. xoxo A-

I've never even had Sprinkles cupcakes, so you can bet I've never had a macaron. There's a cute little french shop down the street from my place that sells them, but I just think they're pretty to look at. I hear ya on feeling left out when bloggers are always talking about them, but I'd rather indulge in a big wedge of piave vecchio.

Now that you mention it, I dont know if I've ever actually had one either!! haha

I like them because they are tiny....but as always, the small things are the most expensive things. I once had one at Laduree *and since it's all so prestige I expected something super fantastic* It was okay. Not the best. I'd rather have my macarons from one of my favorite patisserie in Europe (in Zurich). It's not a faux pas that you guys never had one, and quite frankly it's okay. It's so much more pretty to assort them according to color and look at them. :)

But if you ever have a chance...no matter where you eat them, and when, and if you're okay with raspberry...try that one. Sweet, but okay. Vanilla used to be my favorite flavor but it's boring. Cinnamon can be super good, but is often only available during winter season. And if you ever find a champagne one...don't ignore it! ;)

I feel so much better reading that all of these people haven't ever had one. I always thought I was the only one totally out of the loop!!

PS. I just asked my husband if he had ever had a "macaroon" and he was like uh yeah those coconut things. So I show him the picture and he is like that is a "macaron" not a "macaroon". Now I am even more un-cool than before! hahaha

Morgan, you're obviously not alone, and all these comments above make me feel so much better! I've never had one either! Never seen em, smelled em, touched em, nadda. Nothing. I agree they look so pretty, but I wonder...will I actually like them? You are so cute girl, I love this honest post. It made me feel much better for my lack of macaroon tasting! :)

I hadn't had one until I went to Paris this past New Year's and had my first experience at Laduree. I must say, they did not disappoint! But after trying them there, I can definitely say that they are NOT all created equal, and there is definitely a such thing as a terrible macaron. If you do plan on trying them, I would do a little research first - you don't want a bad first impression!

Um, I don't think I've ever had one either... I'm not sure how that is even possible since I love to eat. :)

haha don't feel too left out! they're good.. but not as good as cupcakes :) and have to agree with Carolyn - not all macarons are created equal. I have had some AMAZING ones and some AWFUL ones!

Ahahahahah!!!! I am SO with you girl. I always see them in dessert windows and never want to waste my calories when I can get a big ol chocolate something that's right beside it.

I was the exact same up until about two months ago when I finally had one! It was nice, but I think they look prettier than they taste :)

So I seriously JUST had my first one like, two weeks ago. I always thought they were so pretty but never actually had one. All the hype is a little out of control. They were dry and flakey and weird tasting.

I've never had one either! It's not that I don't want to try one ... I just never think to! I'm such a cupcake girl that when I visit a bakery I have to have a cupcake! My eyes don't see anything else!
But you have inspired me: I must venture this weekend and try a macaroon!

I have had a couple and I do like them but I still get more excited by a cupcake - it's all the frosting I think!

I only recently tried them a few years ago and that's bc my co-worker is French. I have mixed feelings. They are good but not something I'd crave ever. The texture of them is...different.

YES, they are THAT good. I have a major sweet tooth and these are probably my favorite dessert of all time! Try the pistachio ones :)

I tried one for the first time a few months ago. I honestly wasn't the biggest fan which is probably bad to say since everyone seems to be obsessed. I'd much rather have a cupcake!!

You know, macarons use to be my go-to treat before they became miss popular. Nowadays I rarely come across a macaron that I rave about.

I think they are gross! I'd much prefer the Macaroon variety! Coconut or almond :)

I love these little treats, but I think the love/hate relationship is all based on where you have them! I fell in love with them at the age of seventeen in Paris. After that, I made it a point to grab these when I could (although I've had more than a few sad macarons because of my eagerness)... My favorite places though are Bouchon & Laduree in NYC. If they're done right... paired with the right notes & filling... you'll fall in love. If it's not... well then it's not worth it. Give it a try! They're cute, sweet and colorful. What's not to love? :) xo, Megs

It seems you're not alone! Add me to the never had a a macaroon list too! I'll be really honest. Until this post, I didn't know what they were made of or tasted like(which I guess I still don't)....Maybe I'll join this bandwagon eventually ;)
